LASIK nearly always results in improved vision without correction. However, LASIK is an imperfect procedure that does not always result in 20/20, or even 20/40 visual acuity.Advances in the understanding of how to better treat eye conditions, eye disorders and eye diseases have led to development of new technologies and procedures for treatment. LASIKWhat makes a good LASIK candidate? Appropriate levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism Relative intolerance of glasses or contact lenses Properly motivated and realistic patient The difference between traditional LASIK and custom LASIK (Wavefront)Wavefront TechnologyThis breakthrough treatment establishes a new standard in laser vision correctionWaveScan technology provides your eye doctor with a map of your eyeAfter WaveScan, patients notice results immediately, and their vision will continue to improve over the next few daysWavefront-guided LASIK is an elective procedure with the alternatives including but not limited to eyeglasses, contact lenses, photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), conventional LASIK, and other refractive surgeriesRisks: Custom LASIK does have risks but it also produces better visual improvement than one-size-fits-all LASIK procedures and there is a lower incidence of undesirable side effects such as halos and glare Implantable Contact LensesImplantable contact lenses are powerful additions to the present refractive options, especially for those individuals whose refractive errors presently fall out of the range for LASIKWhat makes a good candidate? Typically, the best candidates for implantable contact lenses are between the ages of 21 and 55, with moderate to severe myopia.Implantable contact lenses, known as phakic intraocular lenses (IOLs), are powerful refractive tools with almost unlimited potential to correct refractive errors (nearsightedness and farsightedness)Unlike LASIK vision correction, the procedure is completely reversibleRisks: rarely do patients experience complications with implantable contact lenses and when complications do occur, they are typically minor when handled expeditiously Educational Forums & Free ScreeningsUniversity Health Care's Moran Eye Center offers educational forums on laser and non-laser vision correction, including the latest information on LASIK, as well as free vision correction screenings.
Eye-watch
ARE you someone whose work demands spending most part of the day under the scorching heat of the sun? Or are you an outdoors type, perhaps? If so, then your eyes are being exposed to the harmful ultra violet (UV) rays of the sun which have the potential to severely hamper your vision. The UV rays emitted from the sun could cause serious damage to the human eye including corneal burns, cataracts and other problems, says Dr Keiki Mehta, President , Contact Lenses society of India and former president of the All India Ophthalmological Society. Simply put, the longer the exposure of the eyes to the sun the greater is the risk of developing UV related problems. So how does one tackle the problem. Studies have implicated that UV-B radiation is a causal factor for cataracts and other ocular disorders including cancer of the skin around the eye, degenerative corneal changes and age related macular degeneration.

OLYMPIA - Port of Olympia commissioners Monday approved a resolution congratulating radio state KGY on its 85th anniversary broadcasting in South Sound. The Olympia station is a port tenant with a lease expiring in 2009. Station and port officials are in talks to move the station's NorthPoint tower on port property and to move the station's studios. The port has notified the station it will not renew its lease so that the port can promote the development of a hotel and public pathway along the shores of Budd Bay, where the station studios currently jut out over the bay on pilings. KGY moved its studios to port property in 1960 after operating at other offices in downtown Olympia and Saint Martin's College. Commissioners Bob Van Schoorl and Bill McGregor approved the resolution.
Why should we care about England?
We`ve been here before, but how on earth are we supposed to feel any interest, let alone empathy or excitement, for the English national team? We are Chelsea supporters. Sorry if that makes us biased. We are also part of the reason why our lads are contributing so much to international football right now. Without us Chelsea fans, there would be no Chelsea Football Club. Without Chelsea, there would be no Didier Drogba for Ivory Coast, Michael Essien for Ghana, Andriy Shevchenko for Ukraine. The Israeli media would not be going overboard about Ben Sahar, who was described as "the player we have dreamed we would one day have. He plays simply and effectively and he sees only one thing ahead of him - the opposition's goal." For France, L`Equipe would not be saying of Lassana Diarra that 'he could play every day for France`.
